The most important thing you can do is to READ to your child as often as possible
Show your child how to hold a book, where to begin reading and which way to turn pages
Point to words as you read to your child
As you read, discuss the pictures and their detail
Read a variety of nursery rhymes (refer to list on the resources page)
Point out environmental print e.g. road signs, familiar logos and symbols etc
Help your child recognise words that rhyme - the sound at the end of the word needs to sound same - can, ran
Build vocabulary - discuss the meaning of words you say, explain unfamiliar words as you read/talk, discuss and explore places in your environment/community
